Well, all is revealed now.
My thoughts are basically the same as Clidus.
I do think the real "ending" will be when the books are finished, but GRRM has said that the ending will be the same....yet different. So we still get Bran as King, and Jon's exile, but perhaps more details which would have made the difference I think. And the book still has its own characters that were never in the show to receive endings.
The show has definitely suffered since it has been ahead of the books. I've read some say that it marks the end of Tyrion, Varys, or Littlefinger doing anything clever.
Bran barely had an arc. A lot of other arcs people hated, I don't mind too much. I don't actually hate Jamie's....the alcoholic in me understands the relapse. Dany's I think was foreshadowed somewhat; she killed Sam's family and didn't have to (was advised against it actually). To me it was clear as of the season finale last season that we were rooting for Jon, not Dany.
Jon is the truly ruined character arc in my opinion. He basically ends the series as a loser. This is where the book needs to do its most explaining.
Why would Sansa not kneel to Bran, but we think Yara would? There are other problems. Rumors are that D&D (showrunners) already had their contract to do some Star Wars thing and just didn't care anymore. Seems possible.
For what it was, I'm glad it happened. And they couldn't have ended it in a way that would please everyone. Same with Breaking Bad, although that show seems to be a much more solidly recommendable binge-watch going forward.
It's like a shitty doppleganger to what we used to have. I mean I'm enjoying it as an entertainment thing, but what it did for me, and what I really wanted from it? Long, long gone.
True statement, and it's the time invested (8 years) that really makes it hurt I think.
