Game of Thrones Season 8 (Spoilers)

I was wondering who was watching Game of Thrones, because we have a limited time for speculation.

Obviously the Night King is no more, and we will see no more white walkers, but some questions remain (bolded), and my opinion is below.

Who do you think sits on the Iron Throne?

My vote, pre-season 8, was for Sansa. Now, it seems like the Arya/Gendry shippers could get their wish in some twist of fate, and Jon Snow/Aegon is a strong contender, probably not with Dani but because Cercei kills her or something.

Is Cercei pregnant?

I think yes, but it isn't born.

What of the fate of:

Alive, probably King.

Undecided, maybe a bird or a tree.

Marries Arya, is legitimized but doesn't take the throne.

Alive, maybe independent Queen of the North. Hard to say how she gets a claim over Jon, Daenarys, or even Gendry.

I'm going to say dead here.

Grey Worm and Missandei

Probably dead after declaring their love or something.

Alive, rules Casterly Rock?

Alive, marries Sansa? His position is clear if Daenarys is on the throne.

Yara Greyjoy

Alive, rules Iron Islands.

Euron Greyjoy

Hound and Mountain

Dead, at each other's hands.

Sam, Gilly, Child

All alive. I don't know why they would have the greatest doctor in Westeros fighting the undead. Sometimes this series doesn't make sense.

Feel free to add anyone I missed!

This entire last seasons has been a real disappointment for me. Since the show had to make its own path without the books its felt a bit weaker to me, but this last season has gone off the rails.

Brans arc has been made seemingly pointless beyond the John Snow reveal. The Knight King had no big reveal, and was killed off ridiculously easily despite the awful battle tactics of the living. And don’t get me started on how almost no one of significance died in that battle. Dany lost her dragon to a one shot no scope shitty pirate that she should have seen a mile away. Euron magically pulls Missandei out of the sea and knows her worth to Dany. And Cersei could have killed all her enemies as they stood in a line outside Kings Landing but didn’t.

And then there is Bron, who can apparently walk into Winterfell without any problems, and happily leaves with an empty promise.

The writing has gotten really bad. They build up this entire plot about how all the political fighting is nothing, and the real threat is beyond the wall, only to resolve that plot in a single episode and conclude the series with the political fighting that was supposed to be past them. Ugggh.

I really hope GRRM actually finishes the books and has a better ending than this...

Yeah I agree. Not happy with it at all. It's like a shitty doppleganger to what we used to have. I mean I'm enjoying it as an entertainment thing, but what it did for me, and what I really wanted from it? Long, long gone.

Y'all ever hear of Malazan the Fallen? So far as a book series goes, it was pretty good to me.

Well, all is revealed now.

My thoughts are basically the same as Clidus.

I do think the real "ending" will be when the books are finished, but GRRM has said that the ending will be the same....yet different. So we still get Bran as King, and Jon's exile, but perhaps more details which would have made the difference I think. And the book still has its own characters that were never in the show to receive endings.

The show has definitely suffered since it has been ahead of the books. I've read some say that it marks the end of Tyrion, Varys, or Littlefinger doing anything clever.

Bran barely had an arc. A lot of other arcs people hated, I don't mind too much. I don't actually hate Jamie's....the alcoholic in me understands the relapse. Dany's I think was foreshadowed somewhat; she killed Sam's family and didn't have to (was advised against it actually). To me it was clear as of the season finale last season that we were rooting for Jon, not Dany.

Jon is the truly ruined character arc in my opinion. He basically ends the series as a loser. This is where the book needs to do its most explaining.

Why would Sansa not kneel to Bran, but we think Yara would? There are other problems. Rumors are that D&D (showrunners) already had their contract to do some Star Wars thing and just didn't care anymore. Seems possible.

For what it was, I'm glad it happened. And they couldn't have ended it in a way that would please everyone. Same with Breaking Bad, although that show seems to be a much more solidly recommendable binge-watch going forward.

It's like a shitty doppleganger to what we used to have. I mean I'm enjoying it as an entertainment thing, but what it did for me, and what I really wanted from it? Long, long gone.

True statement, and it's the time invested (8 years) that really makes it hurt I think.

I really enjoyed the series as a whole, and while the ending is somewhat anti-climatic, I sort of look at it like how I view the Mass Effect trilogy. Yes, EA forced them to rush the last third of the third game so it was thoroughly botched, but hell, what a ride to get there.

Other than picking who would be king and Jaime and Greyworm's fates, your predictions did pretty well DeathScythe!
