Thought this would be of interest for those of you following the latest developments on this game; there's plenty of intriguing tidbits throughout: http://community.livejournal.com/_crisiscore_/27920.html

Stupid CC, why can't I be bitterly cynical about you like I was about AC and DC?

Dirge of Cerberus deserved some bitter expectations since the previews seemed like all the other third-person action RPGs that have bursted out from developers the latest years. If I'm not mistaken games like 'Chaos Legion' and 'Devil May Cry' are two villainous titles when it comes to providing inspiration for that type of games.

I have to admit though I really thought that Advent Children was going to be of deeper meaning than it turned out to be of, I was actually hoping that it was going to be THE FFVII-2, almost :)

Crisis Core is unique in the way that it can't ruin (hopefully, at least!) the slightly vague ending of FFVII (in information, which makes it good) since it's not after it like AC and DoC is.

Tabata: Right now we're at about 90% done overall.
Really, only compressing everything to the UMD's capacity is left. Along with compressing we're also deleting unnecessary data as we go, for everyone the final stretch is really intense and we're forcing ourselves through the troubles.

Let's hope that they don't delete all unnecessary data, so that there are some mysteries to be confused by left.

That interview is indeed interesting. 30 hours for playing through the story is reasonable, especially since they said there's supposed to be much side stuff too.

The difference being, of course, that Devil May Cry was good (never played Chaos Legion, so no opinion there). I totally wouldn't have minded if DC played like DMC, but instead, it played more like DMC's overconfident, scatterbrained stepchild.

I have been thinking about what they said about the general play time (30 hours) and the time for getting all materia and completing the side quests (100+ hours). 30 hours seems perfect to me, you can be pretty sure that those hours of the game are capable of delivering interesting storytelling and the game mechanics won't feel repetetive (if assuming you advance at a pace similar to FFVII, familiarizing yourself with new weapons, materia, enemies and so on). And since the battle style is more action-oriented it should result in more variation, hoping of course that it's not just button mashing :[
The way they put it though (attacking from behind, advantageous magic positions) reminds of Final Fantasy Tactics and is definitely promising (I mean, if you combine the story of FFVII and the battles of FFT, you should get an epic ^_^).

I wonder exactly what those 100 hours mean though, getting extra stuff is good but it seems quite much considering you could get most things in FFVII in less than 100 hours, while the general play time was about 60 hours if I'm not mistaken. Also, FFVII was a game for a stationary console, which meant being more relaxed while playing and no battery limitations. Naturally side quests aren't as interesting as the main storyline if they're not tightly related to it, and it could be a negative thing if it feels like you have to push your way through 70 hours of side quests, if the side quests aren't related to the main story. Any other thoughts on this?
