Final Fantasy aliases used by murdering teens

"Sephiroth" and "Reno", to be precise >_<

Apparently, because of this, Final Fantasy VII is now a Killerspiele ("killer game") in Germany, where the murders took place. Germany, by the by, is considering some very strict game legislation and has long had a history of harsh restrictions on certain violent games.

I get the feeling these legislators simply fear what they do not understand. This is a game that has encouraged deeper analysis and understanding for almost a decade, and they focus on a couple of bad apples who simply allude to it.

unfortunately, this what happens when you become too obsessed with games and unfortunatley, this incident has given a black amrk on the game. Remember what they did to Manhunt: they banned it!

No, this is what happens when your mind is twisted beyond recognition. It takes more than a videogame to do that to a man.

Word.

And why doesn't Australia have an R rating for games? Anything that doesn't fit an MA15 (15 years and above) rating is banned or modified (mind you our censorship is more relaxed than you crazy amerikaans) because it might scare the kiddies! I demand respect as an adult gamer, Grandfather Politics!

Didn't you know? Adult gamers don't exist! We're figments of the popular imagination, just like girl gamers!

(Seriously though, that sucks about Australia >_< I at least hope there's no major import restrictions in case you do want to buy an R-rated game.)

Im getting sick this. Its not the games fault, its the fucking dumbasses that cant tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

I wish there was more detail about the incedent in that report. all it says is that two punks refering to themselves as game characters went out and killed some people. How do we even know that it was because they played the game that they went out and killed people? For all we know, these losers just wanted aliases to make them harder to track down, and just happend to choose names from FFVII. Were the murderers minds THAT warped to actually think that they were infact Sephiroth and Reno? I Hope more info about this comes up.

Nowadays, its video games blew this up and video games killed that. I saw a video somewhere, (Think it was a Metal Gear forum) and aparently, Flight Simulator could cause an incedent like 9/11.*rolls eyes*

What a load of rubbish. I'm sorry but just cause two morons decided they wanted to be murderers, they're now thinking of banning it. They're just blaming the game because they don't understand why they did it. If I murdered someone under the alias of "Jeremy Clarkson" would they ban Top Gear from the UK. No, I didn't think so.

Hey guys, just heard of some more info on this whole thing from some dude over at AC.net who lives in germany.

By the way, they also found out they did not call themselves Reno and Sephiroth and also they don't own FFVII (they just watched the movie and talked a bit about it according to their hostage, and that's when the names were mentioned.)

I dont know how reliable that can be, but heres the link to the thread if you wanna see what else their saying.

http://forums.adventchildren.net/showthread.php?t=79624

There is another thread over there floating around, but I can't seem to find it.

yes, i would say that it is the peoples fault that they do things that they wouldn't normally do. For example, murdering people. The things that people do, it is awful.

I believe that a person must already be unstable to commit such acts. I personally can't see how anybody could be 100% influenced by "entertainment", whether it be a video game, a movie, or a song.

Just came back to Germany and indeed its true after reading the latest german gamepro magazine. They critisized the media for total lack of research. And bytheway, to let you know, it wasn t just FFVII that was baptised Killerspiel, but Advent Children was blamed as well, citing what the magazine Bild: "...where the heros kill without mercy...". That s ridiculous. So now we have Killerfilme as well. Wait and see how the MGS and Halo movies will be added to this new genre as well.

The whole problem here lies with the politicans of some very conservative lands, like in Bavaria in which I live, and the media that support them.

i think the politicians need to learn how to understand unstable people. there is a book called fahrenheit 451. it is in a place where what everyone sees on tv is strictly controlled by the government. Also books are completely illegal and burned at the sight of them. i think that is what the politicians are aiming for. a video game free world. there would be riots if that happened. and i would be on of the rioters
